About Me I grew up in Oklahoma, and along with everyone here am slightly atypical from what you might expect. I've ridden my share of horses, actually corralled cattle, and have helped build one of the most innovative tech companies in Oklahoma. One of the only tech companies in Oklahoma.

I have a borderline obsession with Ancient History and have loved Star Wars as long as I can remember. I read whenever I can, listen to audio books when I can't. A good movie is great, a bad movie with friends can be even better. And in whatever free time I get - I write.
    Position: SVP
Favorite Projects: Every ONEsite community is so distinctive and unique. There is something incredible about the way each has grown and evolved after it first launch. And part of that comes from the people we work with - with every client we get to work with an incredibly talented group of people. Those independent ideas, thoughts, strategies, and suggestions have driven the platform to be the best in the market. So every project is my favorite - Clear Channel, Univision, BowlSpace. Their communities and the different things each has done with them has been incredible.
Favorite Experience: I got a call once from someone at Z100 - because Rihanna desperately needed help setting up her page.
Hobbies: Intelligent conversation, reasonable people, and a group of close friends. The occasional game of Heroscape and whatever video game playing I can get in. You could probably build a pretty good Thad replicant if you got the combination of Ancient History + Science Fiction + Awesome + Dinosaurs + 80's Cartoons + More Awesome + Genius - some ego + some delusions of grandeur + whatever my MBA professors have done to my poor brain. I think that I came out relatively well.

Weekend in the Home Improvement Trenches

Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 10:33 AM CST [General]

We spent the long weekend in an ambitious assault on the downstairs bedrooms.  With the imminent, Incoming! kiddo we needed to get some serious work done on her room and the guest room, and decided we'd do almost all of it this weekend.  We completely redid both bedrooms - and intensive effort of new paint, new carpet, and some little touches we ended up awfully proud of.

I loved this picture, don't ask why I decided to take a picture of messy paint tools.

Carpet out, paint #1 on the wall.  Very cool textured paintable wall paper we found at Lowes mostly up.

Uncle Frank doing some touches on the walls.

AND - walls painted, lighting installed.  Just waiting on carpet today then we will move in and start setting up the room.

The Road - best parenting book I’ve read

Friday, August 7, 2009, 04:17 PM CST [General]

No parenting book has had a greater impact on me than Cormac McCarthy's the Road (and I realize it is not meant as a subsitute for what to expect).

On the flight back from NYC I finished reading The Road.  I know the book has received countless great reviews (and a Pulitzer Prize).  It is an exceptional book.  Reading it as an expectant father gave the story even greater depth and force.  Simple and profound, it is such a testament of endurance, love, and hope.  I can think of few things more critical and important.  Even in the darkest times and blackest moments, it is those traits that I think not simply carry us through, but push and drive us to the future.

    Oklahoma 2.0 - Algorithmic Degenerates

Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 04:57 PM CST [General]

Google announced the development of an algorithm to track what employees were likely to quit and when.  Its built around predicted the behavior that leads up to someone leaving the company.

An incredible HR tool, certainly addresses a concern about brain drain.  But I wonder what happens when you find yourself on the chopping block because the algorithm has determined your days are numbered anyway.

Google's algorithm helps the company "get inside people's heads even before they know they might leave," said Laszlo Bock, who runs human resources for the company.

What happens when the algorithm misses?  I have certainly had a few Google Searches that the algorithm did not get right.  Would hate to think my job was on the line and my position and stake in company threatened by an algorithms attempt to know more about me than I know about myself.

    Walking with Dinosaurs

Friday, January 23, 2009, 10:36 AM CST [General]

A lot of us loved Dinosaurs as a kid, and I did to the extreme.  Walking with Dinosaurs:  The Arena Spectacular is in town this week and I went with my little sister.  It was pretty incredible, although admittedly, I wish I had seen it when I was 10.  The look on the face of the boy in front of me as he yelled "Daddy, Daddy it's a real dinosaur!" was great to see.  It was a great production by the BBC, very impressive, if you ever get the chance, especially if you have a little kid who knows more about dinosaurs (innevitably) than you do, take them, its a great experience.

see more (wish I had my digital camera, iPhone still needs a better camera).
